Components

Gripper Treads are composed of an aluminum base filled with anti-slip grits and fastened to any surface using various stainless steel fastening materials. Only top-grade materials are used to manufacture Gripper Treads.

Aluminum Base

The Gripper Treads base is made of extruder aluminum (6061), which is the material commonly used in the manufacture of heavy duty structures, truck and marine components, railway cars and high pressure applications. This material offers high corrosion resistance. "Hardening T6" is an 8-hour, 350 degrees Farenheit heat treatment which produces what is known as a T6 temper. Additionally, the anodized coating meets Aluminum Association standards.

Anti-slip Grits

The anti slip grits used to fill the aluminum base are made up of three materials: aluminum oxide, copper slag, silica sand and epoxy.

Aluminum Oxide

This material is rated a "9" on the MOHS scale of hardness, diamond being a "10". Black Gripper Treads contain more than 65.5% aluminum oxide while the colour treads contain at least 60%.

Copper Slag

This is a recycled by-product of the copper smelting process. Its irregular shape gives Gripper Treads their lustrous, elegant appearance.

Silica Sand

This sand, which originates in Ottawa, is used in the coloured Gripper Treads. It is impact and shatter-resistant and its colour will not fade under UV exposure because it is baked in.

Epoxy

A 100% solid content epoxy is used to bind the grits to the aluminum base. The flexibility of this material enables it to endure the freeze and thaw cycles of Canadian winters while allowing for generous expansion during the summer months.

Fasteners and Inserts

All screws, bolts, nuts, washers and female threaded ferrule inserts included with Gripper Treads are made of S304 stainless steel.
